Pith

Pith is editorial. Serif headings (Spectral). Cream paper. Single sidebar that holds everything — logo, search, tabs, nav, anchors, navbar links, the primary CTA, the theme toggle. No top bar.

The result is a column of content with chrome out of the way. Reads like a handbook or a long-form essay platform.

When to use it

  • Internal handbooks and knowledge bases.
  • Design-led docs sites where typography matters more than tooling familiarity.
  • Long-form publishing — blog-as-docs, research notes, manuals.

If you want a more conventional dev-tool look, tang. If you need a book aesthetic with chapter nav, readable.

What you don’t get with pith

  • No top bar. Logo and primary CTA both live in the sidebar.
  • No right-rail TOC. The sidebar handles all navigation.
  • No two-row tab + logo layout. Tabs become a sidebar section.

If you need any of those, switch to tang.

Customizing

json
{
  "theme": "pith",
  "colors": {
    "primary": "#7c3aed",
    "light":   "#a78bfa",
    "dark":    "#5b21b6"
  },
  "fonts": {
    "heading": { "family": "Crimson Pro" }
  }
}

For wider content columns (you’ll know if you need it):

css
/* theme/styles/theme.css */
:root {
  --tangly-content-max-width: 50rem;
}
